Amber Smith Celebrates 10 Years at Patterson Cheney Isuzu: From Graduate to Financial Controller and Dealership Leader

Congratulations Amber Smith on your 10 year anniversary at Patterson Cheney Isuzu last month.

Amber is highly regarded within the trucking business but her journey wasn’t always a straight one.

“I originally didn’t see myself in the automotive industry however the role at Patterson Cheney was such a great opportunity. It was my first job out of university (Bachelor of Business at RMIT) and it was fascinating to learn and assist in various roles at the head office.

Starting in accounts payable, Amber saw how cars and trucks differed but after a year, her passion and knowledge grew and her end goal was clear. She wanted to manage her own dealership as a Financial Controller.

Through hard work, Amber was recognised for her talents and the opportunity to be Financial Controller and to manage Patterson Cheney Trucks came very quickly.

“I’ve loved my time at Patterson Cheney and I truly believe what makes Patterson Cheney successful is ‘the people’. The people make the company.”

I had to learn a new industry… Operations, sales, service, parts, admin, truck culture. That’s a lot to get your head around but people do go out of their way to help”

“Terry Jewson was the Dealer Principal when I started at trucks and he is by far the biggest influence in my work career. Terry had a wealth of knowledge and he showed me the ins-and-outs of how to run a dealership.”

“The biggest imprint that Terry left on me was ‘the value of people and relationships’. I see the world in numbers but Terry’s ability to connect and build relationships was amazing. Both staff and customers.”

Reflecting on her many achievements, one of Amber’s biggest highlights was the opening of the new Pakenham branch. To build a new dealership from scratch was a massive project for everyone involved and to see it come to fruition, I couldn’t be prouder of the whole team. We see Pakenham as the growth corridor which can help service and support more customers for now and the future.
