Sandbelt Industries is a family-owned business that supplies quality raw materials to the building and construction industry. Founded in 1985 by Theo Kapnoullas, Sandbelt has grown significantly over the 30 plus years in operation and now has its own concrete plant in Somerville that employs 9 staff. Bill Kapnoullas, son of Theo, is current CEO of Sandbelt, with Matthew Burton in the position of Business Development Manager. Together, they lead a company that prides itself on a passionate work ethic coupled with extensive product knowledge that guarantees customers with quality products and service.
Sandbelt is a leading manufacturer of sports sands, construction materials, aggregates and soils that are supplied throughout Metropolitan Melbourne and nearby country areas. The company specialises in speciality sports surfaces and supplies quality materials for all projects from backyard renovations to Melbourne’s finest golf courses, schools and playgrounds.
The two main divisions of Sandbelt Industries are their sports sands and BudgetCrete – their own brand of decorative concrete. “Both of these products represent equal revenue and sales for the business,” Matthew explained. Sandbelt sources its high-quality sand from its South Gippsland Quarry and supplies this sand to various sports playing fields, council parks and also to Melbourne golf courses. The sand used on the gold courses is used for the greens, tee-off areas, fairways and bunkers.
BudgetCrete, on the other hand, mainly services what Matthew refers to as mid-size customers such as smaller builders. “We supply to both commercial and residential projects ranging from schools to home projects such as driveways and footpaths. Essentially, we work on everyday construction projects,” said Matthew.
Sandbelt purchased a new Isuzu Twin-Steer Agitator FYJ300-350 Auto a couple of months back. Able to deliver a much larger 7.5m3 load of ready mixed concrete, it enables the company to complete larger pours in less time than previous trucks would’ve allowed. “It’s been a very good truck,” Matthew praised. “Everybody here is happy with it; it’s boosted our productivity plus it’s a very smooth drive, not to mention how quiet and comfortable it is,” he went on to say.
In addition to their new Isuzu truck Sandbelt already operates three Isuzu MU-Xs (7 seaters) and one D-MAX Ute (4-wheel drive). Both types of vehicles have been a big hit with the company given the versatility they provide. The D-MAX is used for the transport of mobile equipment whilst the MU-Xs four wheel drive capability and seating flexibility finds them being used for a variety of tasks. “The price is really competitive for what you get. They are multi-purpose vehicles that are great for both the work we do and weekend leisure time,” Matthew added. “To put it simply, all the Isuzus are great, reliable vehicles,” Matthew summed up.
“The service we receive from Patterson Cheney has always been excellent and has been a key factor in selecting the Isuzu brand for our truck, Ute and family wagon requirements. Sales Manager Paul Leggerini has been great to deal with and our relationship will only strengthen in the future,” Matthew continued.
Sandbelt also uses Patterson Cheney for the servicing of their vehicles. “The servicing provided by Patterson Cheney has been fantastic – if there’s an issue, they get onto it right away and it’s fixed quickly and to the highest quality,” Matthew stated. “Furthermore, their 24 hour servicing is a big help. We have the ability to drop a truck off at night and pick it up in the morning,” Matthew concluded.
Thanks in part to the reliability and versatility of their Isuzu fleet, Sandbelt continues to be a business that provides both the highest quality materials and best service to its customers throughout Metropolitan Melbourne.
