For over 15 years, Transcrete has been supplying a range of quality reinforcing and concreting products to building sites of all sizes. The successful family-run company, which was founded by Andrew and John Pavloff, commenced operations in Dandenong but has since moved to new headquarters at Clayton, where it employs 23 people. Transcrete operates throughout Metropolitan Melbourne, from inner-city to the Peninsula.
Business Development Manager Jeff Wright has been in the steel reinforcing game for many years and has worked with Transcrete for the past fourteen. “Transcrete is a hands-on business and many of the staff have over ten years experience; they all take a lot of pride in the business and its services,” Jeff explained.
The company is proud of its strong connection to its customers. “We pride ourselves on the strong relationship with the customer; this has kept us in good stead,” Jeff said. “Our business model suits all sorts of businesses, from small to large,” he went on to say. Transcrete’s main area of business is in residential housing, especially apartments, and has recently been involved in the landscaping and retirement village sectors.
Transcrete sources and supplies concrete reinforcing mesh and bar, which Jeff describes as a wonder product. “It’s something people rarely see, but it’s the vital ingredient in strengthening concrete,” Jeff explained. This mesh & bar accounts for 90% of the company’s revenue and is specifically designed by the engineer to suit the customer’s requirements. The company aims to deliver within two days of the order being placed. “We make sure that we deliver on time but also provide the highest possible quality - we know what the customers want,” Jeff added.
Another popular asset of the company is the on-site tool and hardware store. Jeff states that “we can compete in the front end” as the store is a “one stop shop” due to its large variety of tools and equipment. Essentially, it contains everything that a concrete worker could want.
Isuzu trucks play a big part in Transcrete’s operations. The company has used Isuzu vehicles since business commenced and has had up to seven vehicles in its fleet. Currently they have five, with the latest delivered in July; this new F-Series Isuzu, like all the other trucks in the fleet, is fitted with a HIAB crane, providing maximum flexibility and manoeuvrability on-site.
Jeff and the drivers at Transcrete have been highly impressed with the performance of the Isuzu trucks, “they have been very reliable with minimal issues.” Jeff praised. “Originally we considered some other brands, however we soon realised that the Isuzu package offered by Patterson Cheney was superior to anything else,” Jeff added. Furthermore, the truck drivers at Transcrete take “a lot of pride” in the presentation of the trucks; “the drivers always like to keep the trucks clean and looking good,” Jeff said.
With that, Jeff praises sales consultant Jim Mackinnon from Patterson Cheney: “Jim is an astute guy,” Jeff said. “He is fantastic to work with and has a great service mentality, so naturally, he has been good for the business,” Jeff went on to say.
Patterson Cheney provides most of the truck maintenance for Transcrete, and they are highly impressed with the 24 hour weekday servicing that Patterson Cheney offers. Jeff explains that, “we always take advantage of night service, which is a huge win for us. We drop our trucks off at night and pick them up in the morning, it’s brilliant,” he went on to say.
Jeff concludes that the Isuzu is, “a very reliable and all-round great truck that has served the business well.” Transcrete has flourished thanks in no small part to the reliability of its Isuzu fleet and the service they receive from Patterson Cheney. These factors will allow the company to continue growing in the future.
