After celebrating 20 years of operation in March 2015 – an impressive innings for a business that’s had to weather the typical ups and downs experienced in the commercial and residential building industry – TS Constructions has taken delivery of five new models of D-MAXs after a successful experience with the previous models.
Director Stephen Howell believes it’s the professionalism of the company; coupled with a commitment to excellent customer service, that has seen them not only survive the last 20 years, but prosper.
The business has five Directors all holding equal shares, supported by 30 staff members. The company's primary business is commercial building – the “bread and butter” of the company, Stephen affirms. This includes shops, unit developments, fire stations and ambulance stations – essentially anything and everything! However, the uncertain economic climate the company experienced a few years ago saw them diversify into residential building.
Initially servicing the Bass Coast region and Phillip Island and surrounding areas, over recent years the company has further expanded its reach - into the La Trobe Valley, the Bunyip area and other outer Melbourne suburbs.
A major project the company is working on is the Cape Patterson Eco-Village. TS Constructions has partnered with The Cape to build environmentally superior homes (8/9 star efficiency) that meet the design and function of the development. “It is taking off; we have completed five houses, plus three are under construction with another four to start in the new year,” Stephen said. “We are currently at Stage 1 out of 5 stages” he went on to say. By the end of the project, the company is hoping to have a “couple of hundred blocks” of eco-friendly houses, providing a major boost to the company’s reputation.
The new D-MAX models have been an instant hit with the company, “I love them, all the boys like them,” Stephen praised. “They have bit more torque than the older models and as such, we are more than happy with them” he went on. In fact, the new models of D-MAXs have an extra 50Nm of torque. Furthermore, the vehicles also provide class leading towing capacity; Stephen states that the new models “seem to tow my boat better!”
Other features such as automatic transmission, cruise control, Bluetooth, a quality stereo, the spacious cabin and great ride comfort didn’t go unnoticed either.
One of the key reasons why Stephen chose the previous model was the outstanding fuel efficiency. The new D-MAX’s 6-speed transmission further enhances this key feature. Given the mileage the directors of TS Constructions travel and the widespread geographical localities the company services, the outstanding fuel efficiency is of crucial importance to them.
Stephen knew Westar/Patterson Cheney Dealer Principal Terry Jewson well and TS Constructions already operated a couple of Isuzu trucks so the Isuzu D-MAX was an obvious choice. “Terry’s always been great to deal with so it was an easy decision to go with the D-MAX particularly once we understood all the benefits of the vehicle,” Stephen added. “The relationship we have with them meant it was a pretty easy transition”, Stephen confirmed. The company has also been dealing with Sales Consultant Shane Schmidt who, according to Stephen, “has done a great job with all the follow up work” to ensure a smooth transition to the new D-MAXs.
The vehicles are 4x4 models and were fitted with canopies, roof racks and tow bars to further enhance their flexibility for work duties and make them suitable for other recreational pursuits. A range of colours was deliberately chosen rather than having a single colour fleet to provide each of them with some individuality.
Stephen has also purchased an M-UX, which his wife uses. He describes it as a family vehicle that has the ability to “tow the boat, tow the caravan and take the family places”.
“It is pretty handy; it has no issues, my wife and I love it,” he praised.
After a short period with the new models and a total of three years service with the previous D-MAXs, Stephen says that both he and his fellow directors are absolutely wrapped with the vehicles. “I love it and the guys love theirs too - we couldn’t have chosen a better Ute,” he concluded.
