A proud Australian-owned business, Hard Surface Cleaners offers a comprehensive range of indoor and outdoor high pressure cleaning solutions to a diverse array of clients.
Owner Greg Matthews was previously in the financial and tiling sectors, and his experience in finance has proved to be useful in setting up and running his own business.
A few years back, Greg spotted an opportunity in the market to provide high-pressure cleaning services to major businesses. Whilst these businesses provided their own limited cleaning, Greg was surprised that no company was providing high-pressure cleaning services to these big clients on a commercial basis. With this in mind, Greg commenced operation with Hard Surface Cleaners in August 2014.
Greg notes that there were some “tough adversities when the business initially commenced.” Greg says that they had a tough time “getting the right machinery that was reliable, as well as some financial challenges at the beginning.” He bought a cheap truck that, according to Greg, “nearly broke me,” as it began to break down after only a short period of service.
McDonalds gave the company the boost they needed. McDonalds restaurants around Australia are now cleaned quarterly, on average, with both the interior and exterior of the store cleaned.
Hard Surface Cleaners has continued to expand; they now service companies such as Aldi and Bunning’s as well as numerous factories, car parks, shopping centres, schools and play grounds. Greg affirms that customer service is the “biggest part of our business – we are reactive and are there to do a good job.” Greg attributes their positive customer service as a key reason for their ongoing success.
The company’s fleet of Isuzu trucks are essential to the cleaning process. Each of the trucks are fitted with a high-pressure cleaning system. These hot water systems generate water at 3500-4000 PSI at 80-90 degrees. This hot water is used mainly for the interior of stores. This is in addition to the traditional cold high-pressure cleaning that is used on the exterior facades, signage and outside of buildings.
Greg had always liked Isuzus but believed they were out of his price range. However, after Greg was enticed by the Isuzus “turning circle, manoeuvrability and ease of handling in the inner-city” – as well as his poor experience with a cheap truck, he realised that quality trumped price. “The trucks were well worth it,” he added.
The first Isuzu was delivered to the company in 2016. Since then, the fleet of Isuzus has grown to seven and the positive experience Greg had with Isuzu trucks convinced him that it is “nothing else but Isuzus.”
Greg explained that he was on the lookout for a ute and family wagon. So impressed had Greg been with Isuzu trucks, that purchasing an Isuzu D-MAX ute and MU-X seven seat family wagon was an obvious decision. “The diesel engine in both vehicles is great, reliable and very fuel efficient,” Greg said. “I’m very happy with both the vehicles.”
Greg praises the “awesome service provided by Patterson Cheney.” In particular, Greg loves the 24-hour servicing offered by Patterson Cheney (which is available from Monday to Friday). He said, “I drop my truck off at night and pick it up the next morning, it’s fantastic and a key reason why I continue to use Patterson Cheney Isuzu.”
Due to continued expansion, Greg plans to purchase another Isuzu truck and ute in the new financial year.
